Frequently Asked Questions

Brass Diesel Locomotive Can I put a drawbar between my brass locomotives?
Solution: Yes, but it needs to be made of plastic, or a non-conductive material. Due to the split chassis nature of our brass diesel locomotives, the shoe that holds the coupler is connected to one of the track polarities. If you connect it back to back to another truck, you will create an electrical short. We have found that a Marklin platic track tie drilled out a bit) makes a perfect drawbar!

F59PHi Locomotive The “back poarch” comes off my Locomotive very easily? What should I do?
Solution: If you have problems, we suggest gluing it on with CA (“Krazy Glue”)

Bombardier Passenger Cars. These cars seem to derail when I perform switching operations over turnouts.
Solution: contact us for a replacement floorboard - we have made some improvements

Brass Locomotives My locomotive is not running properly - who can perform repairs?
Solution: All of our Brass products can be repaired by the factory - usually in under 30 days - contact us for more information

Brass Locomotives I need a spare part (gear, truck, coupler) what should I do?
Solution: We do not stock parts for our Brass products, please contact us so that we can make arrangements to return it to the factory for repairs.

SD-70/75 Locomotive The coupler keeps coming off - why?
Solution: The coupler was designed for easy removal so that customers could easily swap them out for the included pilot / plow. This worked far too well. On our later production runs the couplers were glued in place to the truck with CA (“Krazy Glue”) this should fix the problem.

How can I put MTL couplers on AZL products?.
Solution: All of our AZL coupler boxes were designed to allow the end consumer to install MTL coupler mechanisms with a minimum of modification. The box size and shape are the same, just simply replace the “guts.

Undecorated Locomotive Does AZL Make them? Will you in the future?
Solution: At the moment, No. There has not been much demand for undecorated units (although we do get the occasional request) and there would be no price difference between undecorated and decorated, so we suggest simply repainting the model that suits your needs best.
